About the Beer:
Loopback Tea Pale Ale is Bias Brewing’s first “mainstay” beer! Bias opened without any flagship beers, but we spent the first months of operation polling our customers about their favorites. It quickly became clear that the Loopback is a strong customer favorite and one that we should not rotate off of the menu.
Loopback starts as a well-balanced pale ale recipe. Then, it’s taken in a interesting direction by adding Earl Grey tea during the boil process. Earl Grey is a black tea that features zest from a small citrus fruit called Bergamot, so using Earl Grey gives a black tea sweetness as well as a pinch of citrus. This is a delicate ingredient to work with, because both the black tea and the citric acid in Bergamot are sensitive to time and temperature, and will turn bitter if boiled too long.
This beer is also hopped to a pleasant level, giving this beer lots of appeal with hop lovers. The brewmaster opted for fragrant, floral hops that don’t overpower the bergamot.
About the Name:
Named by co-founder and head brewer Adam, as a nod to his IT career. In computer networking, “loopback” refers to the “home” node in a network. Loopback Tea Pale Ale is a beer that Adam has been making at small scale for nearly a decade. The name Loopback references his start at “home” as a homebrewer, and our shared goal of making Bias an extension of our own homes and a welcoming destination for our staff and patrons.
